Painting: motivation idea, the painting clock.
These ludicrous thoughts were scrawled by
Gamers World
at
9:49:00 am
So, i feel that I am not painting enough at the moment so I have an idea to get me back into it. The idea is simple, on my watch I am going to time my self while I paint, I am going to paint for at least 10 minutes every night, if I miss a night then I have to do the excess the next night and so on but if I do more than ten mins then it doesn't mean I don't have to paint the next night.
It will start at 10 mins but as I get into the habit then I may raise that. I hope you like the idea.

Jacob.

Painting: Random/Fun learning models.
These ludicrous thoughts were scrawled by
Gamers World

12:52:00 am
Hi, so today I'm talking about random models that you have in your collection, maybe a spare black reach model or that conversion that you never used. What I do with these is to, from time to time I take one. Build it (maybe not fully) and paint it with no regard for it looking cohesive or fitting in with the fluff. I try to try new techniques for instance on the model below I experimented with wet blending on some of the purple and orange, face paint, an odd stippling effect for green armour and weird layering/washing/brush stroking technique on the hair as well as a couple of others. The model as a whole looks really odd but I learned a lot from painting it.
So, do you use this idea or are you going to try it? Thanks for reading,
Jacob.
P.S. I should be back to posting every day next week as I am back at school.

Army finishing project: Finished tzeentch sorcerer on disk!
These ludicrous thoughts were scrawled by

So, I have now finished my Tzeentch sorc on disk. I used none metallic metal on the halberd and disk prongs and the only metallic colour used was shining gold. Anyway, here are the pics in a slideshow:
Pros: I am quite pleased with the NMM and the fire, as well as the grubby-ish white. I like hi and I think he stands up to close inspection as I took time in the intricate details especially he little tube on his belt which i used a speckling effect for.
Cons: the only bad bit for me is the stand. I custom made it out of a pen but i can't seem to make him stick and make it not brittle. That's why he is propped up on a bouncy ball.
Tell us what you think, thanks for reading,
Jacob.

So, i had a couple of nid models left over and decided to experiment. They came out quite nice so I thought I'd do a little tutorial. The pics are in order so watch the slideshow from the beginning for step by step. The method is
Step 1: prime white (no pics).
Step 2: wash 'flesh' with any colour, I used green on one and red on the other.
Step 3: Paint shell grey (or another neutral colour).
Step 4: wash whole model devlan mud.
Step 5: Paint recesses in 'flesh', teeth, claws, edge of shells etc bleached bone and tongue purple.
Step 6: On bigger models add a few highlights (optional)
Step 7: Do any extra details (optional)
If you don't do step 6 and 7 then a normal gaunt with take around 3 minutes. Remember that a spray gun would be dead useful for stp 1, 2 and 4.

Painting: commisioning, do you lose out on the hobby.

So, I have been looking around at all of these different mini painting companies and James has just set a really cheap one up to. I don't want to use them but for all the people that do. Do you think it detracts from the hobby when perople go, nice paint job mate and you have to go 'yea, it was done by... not me' I thik that definatlely young and new gamers should give painting it theselves a try first. then maybe if you don't want to paint 72 termagaunts then you can send them away.
So, what do you think, discuss, thanks for reading,
Jacob.

Hi, over the last week or so I have been making progres on my Reedeemer, a terran hands rhino (repainted) and a WIP tac squad. On with the pics:
Here is the Reedeemer The gold was painted iyanden then twice shining gold then very very heavy wash devlan.
I ran our of boltgun so the maetals are mithril silver heavily washed with badab black.
Now for the marines, sorry for bad lighting in these pics.
On these I just did some little things like some highlighting, next is final details and arms/boltguns, should be good when there done!
Finaly the rhino, not many pics at the moment as it is just as you see there. This is just a bog standard job.
So, what do you think. Have you been enjoying the army finishing project, I know I have. Not going to be much warhammer coming my way this christmas but hey ho. Thanks for reading,

Tutorials: Writing on tanks (11 pics).
These ludicrous thoughts were scrawled by
Gamers World
at
12:00:00 am
Hi, Just thought I'd do the tutorial on how I did the writing on the sally rhinos, reme3mber this isa also a bpart of the army finishing project, here we go:
Step 1, placing: choose where on the model you want the writing, make sure to do this carefully as it is very important.
Step 2, draw it: Get a pice of paper and draw out what you want your writing to say, I called one of my rhinos Fire Drake and the other Carinus. Here is how I drew out Fire Drake.
Step3, paint 1: paint the letters carefully with only simple curls etc, make sure to print it and not join up as this will make it neater.
Step 4, paint 2: Paint on your other locations (I had 2).
Step 5, joining up: It's hard to see butb here I have carefully joined up the letters.
Here are the close-ups of my other tank so you can see the step by step again.
So, what do you think, like it. Do I need to improve anything. Thanks for reading,
Jacob.

Discussions: #8 Painting, fast or slow, neat or wild. How do you do it!
These ludicrous thoughts were scrawled by
Gamers World
at
9:09:00 am
Hi, Jacob here, this weeks post is about whether you paint different things fast or slow and whether you do lots of neat paintwork or a wild method that might be considered quick and dirty! 1 person I know has quite a bit of patience but not much skill, so he paints his armies slow but in a wild way. This is Stu who has been interviewed before.
With his ogres he spends time on all of this but it is a simple metod. The skin is just tallarn flesh washed heavily with devlan mud. This is very simple but when time is taken over it looks decent.
Some peoples character models are 20-40 hour masterpieces but others are jsut a complicated soldier model.
Another example is me and faces. I've never had much practice at this but now I just use tallarn flesh, highlight dwarf/elf flesh, paint teeth etc and done. Eyes are a tough point for me but I'm learning!
So, how do you paint. Are you top class with a quick and neat job or are you different with a slow and dirty job. Both work, one just takes more practice. White undercoats require a neater method weher as black allows for a dark gritty but wild painted look.
Please tell us where you sit and how you are. Thanks for reading,
Jacob.

Painting: LOADS done on Space Wolves (pics included).
These ludicrous thoughts were scrawled by
Gamers World

Hi, just thought I'd share my most recent updates with the wolves. Here we go:

It's hard to see I know but these guys have been painted shadow grey then had a heavy wash of devlan mud

Now here's some progress. the armour has been reestablished with shadow grey except for the recesses. Most of the yellow base coat for gold has been done. both shoulder pads have received their base coats and the face and base coat of the hair are started.

The wolf guard. Now, his armor was never reestablished because of the amount of wear and tear it would have, He has also had a load of work done.

Painting: Games day chaos champion.

So, recently I have been painting up my games day mini. It will be a gift to my soon to be opened school warhammer club. It will make a sweet leader to the small chaos force. the guy still has a bit of work to be done but here are the pics:
The armour was first a blue, then highlighted overly. Then i washed with reds browns and greens before a final black wash. this all gives it a lot of depth. the legs started off being blended with blues but then i washed them to tie all the layers together. A lot of the other stuff wash many layers and some carefully thought out washes and stripes.
there has been an awful lot of work done on the back. especially the shield. that was painted. painted over again with watered down brown, then parts scratched down to the metal and built up to rust. this was complemented by some bolt gun metal around certain parts.
If you would like to hear more about any parts of the model then please contact me. please comment and tell me what you think and whether any improvements have to be made.
thanks for reading,
Jacob.

Hi, this time I will be hosting my first competition. Now this one has no prize exept for bragging writess of course.
The competition: Look at the photos below and try to come up with a name for either rhino 1 or rhino 2. Once you have come up with a name you then comment on this post with your entry, in a few weeks time (date to be decided) I will choose a winner for each rhino and their chosen name will be painted onto it.
Rules: You may enter as many names as you like, the winner will be chosen by me and will be the name I like the most. Now I have thought of one name that has already been used a lot but may give you and idea, it is Fire Drake. Any way, on with the pics.
